Stony Spur and Taconite Spur trails: The Stony Spur Trail and
the Taconite Spur to Ely cutoff will be groomed today. Part of the
Taconite Spur to Giant’s Ridge will be groomed tomorrow. That trail
is too rocky and not much snow to groom all the way to the Ridge.
(3/5/12) Tomahawk Trail and Local Trails:
The Tomahawk Trail is being groomed twice weekly now. Most of the
trail is in fair to good condition except for the section between
Mud Lake and Vermilion Lake. That area will not be groomed due to
lack of snow. The section between Burntside Lake and Mud Lake is
just fine. The trail is good between Ely and the North Shore Trail.
(3/5/12) Taconite Trail: St. Louis County: The
Taconite State trail conditions vary from good to fair. The southern
parts of the trail SW of Hwy 53 are getting heavy traffic and there
is little snow to work with. Some areas have exposed rocks and
stumps, so use caution. 2-4 inch base. (3/5/12) Bear Island State Forest: Putnam/Fishing Lakes Trail:
The Bear Island State Forest-Putnam/Fishing Lakes Trails are being
groomed again this week and are currently in good condition. Watch
out for exposed rocks on portions of the Fishing Lakes Trail. 3-4
inch base. (3/5/12)
PLEASE NOTE: Please use caution
when venturing out on the lakes. There are several pressure ridges
on some of the area lakes. Currently, Shagawa, Little Long, Fall,
Birch, White Iron and part of Burntside lakes are staked. Please
follow the staked trails when using lake travel. |
